Important: about compounded GLP-1 medications

Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved. The FDA does not review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness, or quality. They are not generic versions of, and are not the same as, FDA-approved brand-name medications such as Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Mounjaro®, or Zepbound®, and clinical trial results for those brand-name medications do not apply to compounded products.

Under federal compounding rules, a licensed provider may prescribe a compounded medication only when they identify a specific, patient-level medical need that a commercially available FDA-approved product cannot meet, for example an allergy to an inactive ingredient. Compounded medications should not be prescribed simply because they cost less. A licensed provider decides whether any medication is appropriate for you.
